We’d like to share how our team responded to the recently disclosed critical PHP vulnerabilities to help keep the websites under our care protected.
The vulnerabilities, collectively known as PHP2Shell, could potentially enable attackers to gain unauthorised control of affected web servers, access sensitive information, or disrupt online services.
The severity of the threat prompted the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) to urge organisations to identify vulnerable systems, apply security updates immediately, and investigate potential compromises.
On the morning of 22 October 2026, Orfeostory’s technical leadership team, led by Project Director Desmond Heng and Chief Technology Officer Azad, initiated an urgent assessment with its hosting provider.
Beginning at 9:38 am, the team sought to identify the PHP versions deployed across its hosted websites, establish which environments could be affected, and prioritise any necessary remediation.
The investigation included direct technical discussions regarding PHP security releases, cPanel configurations, CloudLinux environments, and security patch coverage for both current and legacy PHP versions.
The hosting provider also advised that no hacking incidents had been reported through its support channels at the time of the enquiry.
With server-side remediation confirmed, Orfeostory continued reviewing application-level requirements and compatibility considerations to minimise potential disruptions while maintaining appropriate security protections.

As news of the vulnerabilities spread, Orfeostory also responded promptly to client enquiries concerning the security of their websites.
In one instance, a client requested confirmation that its web server was protected against the newly identified vulnerabilities.
Orfeostory confirmed that server-side patches had already been rolled out that morning, that application-level updates and compatibility assessments were being reviewed, and that no signs of compromise had been identified at that stage.
